5 Simple Do It Yourself SEO Secrets Worth $5K or more
1. Social Media Authority
It is been said that Google changes their ranking algorithm TWICE a day.
There are also over 200 Google ranking factors, a complete list of which can be found here.
Google mentioned that social media engagement is a BIG ranking factor in 2016.
The number of comments, likes and shares you get counts a lot more than you think.
Gone are the days where you can create a few strong backlinks to steal the number 1 spot.
Google can now tell if people actually like your content and are engaging with it.
With that said here are 2 things you can do to increase SEO rankings:
#Step 1 : Create social media accounts(FB, Twitter and LinkedIn) and build a loyal following.
When people search for your website name/company name your social accounts pop up in the search results! Here is an example for when i search Backlink
Make sure you have authoritative social media profiles to bring in more visitors through SEO.
3 extra social profiles that rank for your keyword can mean 3 times as many visitors. Don’t overlook this!
#Step 2: Post relevant links on your social media e.g your latest blog posts to create backlinks and improve search engine visibility on the social media search engines.
As Neil Patel has pointed out: people also search for your keywords on social media search engines which gives them more ways to locate your website without directly using Bing or Google.
Here i search for backlink on Facebook’s search engine.
It has been said that Bing does look at the authority of social accounts and the number of shares etc to decide whether to boost their rankings in Google.
Google on the other hand has changed their opinion on this a few times by first saying that social engagement does not directly affect rankings to saying that it does!
When asked about how much Bing counts articles being retweeted and referenced in Twitter in their SEO algorithms they replied with
Bing:
We do look at the social authority of a user. We look at how many people you follow, how many follow you, and this can add a little weight to a listing in regular search results. It carries much more weight in Bing Social Search, where tweets from more authoritative people will flow to the top when best match relevancy is used. [SOURCE]
2. Mobile Optimization
This secret by itself is worth well over $5000.
Just looking at my own website we can see that out of 208 computer sessions there were 69 mobile and 7 tablet sessions.
Here are 3 more reasons why you should care:
- There are over a billion people accessing the Internet through the phone today. If you are ignoring mobile users, you are wasting your money.
- A fourth of global search engine traffic comes from mobile phones
- Over 50% of people will leave your website if it does not load within 3 seconds( that includes me!)
Now that we know the importance here are #3 steps to optimize your website for mobile:
#Step 1: Use a responsive website theme
It is essential that you choose the right website theme if you are using WordPress or any other CMS.
You should find this information in the theme description.
I made sure to choose a responsive theme for the website:
There are also many WordPress plugins which can make your website responsive in just a few clicks.
Here is one that i use on one of my other websites:
#Step 2: Use Google’s tool to test your website for mobile friendliness
Here the tool to test how well your website is optimized for mobile phones.
To really take this to the next level make sure you read the BONUS underground TIP at the end.
#Step 3: Check the website yourself

3. Local SEO
Google loves giving people individualised results.
People nowadays are always using their mobiles on the move.
They might use Google Maps, search or Google+ to locate your company.
Many people neglect this part of Google so use these tips to be blow your competition out of the waters!
Here are 2 free tips to get you listed locally on Google.
#Step 1 : Get a Google+ Page
Make sure to have a profile picture/business logo to keep a personal connection with your customers
Update your business address and contact information and keep it consistent with all your social media profiles to make it easier for Google to rank you.
Here is a very good example of what information to include in the description:
#Step 2:Get a Google Places Page here
Once you have a Google Places page you’ll be found on :
- Google Search engine
- Google Maps
- Google+
As you can see when i search for Dentists in Toronto, the local places and  Google maps locations all show up BEFORE any other results.  You can also notice the review rating under the business name.Â
Here is why you will be bringing in more customers:
- Local search results show up ABOVE normal search results. Crazy right?
- Your Google Maps location ALSO pops up in the search results
- Your reviews are also displayed allowing people to decide whether your worth visiting
Speaking of reviews make sure you get the best ones you can and post them on your Google page.
When it comes to local search ranking factors, reviews account for 8.4% as shown in Moz’s survey
Google favors businesses with positive reviews, so get as many as you can.
4. On Page SEO…..
There are a few things that should come natural to you.
One of those things should be On page SEO.
These are Google ranking factors that you should incorporate with all your articles.
Here are the 4 On Page SEO tips.
#Step 1 : Focus Keyword.
For each article/page, there should be a unique focus keyword.
This will help Google understand what the particular page is about.
Don’t overuse your keyword in the article.
You should have a keyword density of about at least 2% in MY OPINION although in a research/survey article by Shaun Anderson we can see that there is no optimal keyword density and most marketers believe it is important to not overdo it and keep it relevant whilst keeping the other Google ranking factors into account.
#Step 2: Tags
The main tags you should set are:
- Body tags e.g H1, H2, H3 etc. Use the keyword.
- Meta Description. Make sure to include your focus keyword on there and make it appealing
- Image Alt tags and descriptions. Use the keyword in both, in all your images.
- Meta Tags. Use the All In One WordPress Plugin to easily do this
Here are a few more pointers when it comes to keywords:
- Your title should preferably start with the keyword.
- Start the article with your keyword.
- Mention the keyword throughout the article. Keep a density of around 2-3%?
#Step 3: Internal Links
Have a page that is glued to page 1 on Google whilst others are sleeping on page 3 and 4?
Link out to those pages in your better ranking articles to give them a quick and easy boost!
As a general rule you should have internal links in every article.
There are 3 advantages to internal linking
- Readers will be able to read related articles.
- You will boost your page 3/4 articles to page 1/2
- You’re making it easier for Google to crawl your website
Here are a 2Â rules :
- Like keywords, don’t overdo it. Use a few. 3 to 5 should be good for 1 article
- Only use relevant links so people can read related articles.
Don’t forget to link out to other relevant articles as well (not your own).
This will help Google understand what your content is about and rank you accordingly.
And when you do link out to others, let them know!
#Step 4: WordPress Plugins
To make on page SEO really easy there are many plugins you can use.
Personally, i use the YOAST SEO plugin which I believe is one of the best out there.
Use any plugin, but make sure you use one.
Even if you feel like you can do it without one.
There has been many times, for myself, where I might have forgotten to specify a meta description or alt tags.
The plugin will remind you.
So get one from the plugin store!
#5 :Bing Is your Besty. (Powerful Tip)
You might find that when you are first starting out that Google tends to be very greedy in terms of giving you first page rankings(or even second and third page).
It happens.
This is where 4 other search engines come into play:
- Bing
- Yahoo
- MSN
- AOL
They’re your best friends when starting out.
Not only that but Bing will give you a coupon worth £75 which lasts you about 3 months!
Imagine all the traffic you can drive with that.
In fact on one of my websites in the FIRSTÂ 7 days I was getting 47.2% of my organic traffic from Bing and 44.8% from Yahoo with the rest being Google, AOL and Yahoo.
529 searches from Bing and 503 from Yahoo in the FIRST 7 days of the website. The 85 comes from Google.
Told you Google is greedy as hell!
Follow these 3 steps to start stealing traffic from Bing:
Step 1 : Make an account on Bing(hotmail account or just use your Gmail) and signup on Webmaster Tools
2. Â Similar to Google Analytics you submit your Sitemap to Bing so that they can scan through your website..
If you don’t know what your sitemap is or how to get it:
On WordPress simply install YOAST SEO plugin and go to the sitemap option
Click on XML sitemaps and then on XML Sitemap for the link.
When you click on XML Sitemap it will take you to the Sitemap URL.
In my case it is here
Step 3 : Once that is done you can start doing some real magic.
Here is where you submit URLs from your website to Bing so it can index those URLs
You should do this especially when you have just published a new post/article.
It really works.
In fact in only 7 days I managed to appear over 6000 times in the Bing search results(for certain keywords).
So to submit your URLs go here:
Then input the URL in the text box and submit 1 at a time.
Bing will add those submitted URLs directly into their index for you!
Those are tips to quickly steal traffic from Bing, Yahoo, AOl and MSN.
Very soon I will be publishing a guide on how to RAKE in visitors using BING ADS and how to get a high CTR on your Ads.

BONUS TIP
Website SPEED.
One Google ranking factor is site speed.
Most people avoid slow websites at all costs unless there is a really good reason for them to wait the extra 5 seconds.
Google said in 2010 that they would start taking site speed into account.
Faster sites make everyone happy.
It’s a win win for everyone so don’t neglect it
Here is the tool I use to check my website speed for both mobile AND desktop.
Here are my desktop results:
Here are the mobile results.:
As you can see there are 3 main issues with this site:
- caching
- minifying CSS
-
Eliminating render-blocking CSS and JS above the fold content
The good thing about this tool is that it shows you how to fix it as well:
Once you have fixed the problems, go back to check your rating!
